As was said in our description of CranioSacral Therapy, CST monitors the central nervous system and supports the bodyís amazing ability to heal itself! While using a soft touch generally about the weight of a nickel to monitor the rhythm and work with the tissue release, there is another process your practitioner is listening to —emotions held in the memory of the tissues.
The body is like a giant tape recorder, recording the energy of anything that ever happened to us. Whatever hasnít been released as yet is still there. So it can happen that emotions can be part of the restriction. In order to release that restriction completely, the emotion or belief may be released as well. Gentle support and talking may be involved in that emotional release; - or not. The wise, skilled practitioner follows the guidance of your body so just exactly what YOU need to happen is what takes place.
This subtle touch and support allows the release to be deep and expand to the entire body creating deep relaxation. As emotions free up, you will be much less vulnerable to dis-ease, pain or dysfunction. And you’ll be much more alert, aware and wise in your own self-care.
SomatoEmotional Release is a word coined by Dr. Upledger as the emotional part of the body releases became a vital piece of the healing process. Soma means body so it is Body/Emotional release.
CST and SER were pioneered and developed by osteopathic physician John E. Upledger, D.O., O.M.M. following extensive scientific studies from 1975 to 1983 at Michigan State University, where he served as a clinical researcher and Professor of Biomechanics. He founded the Upledger Institute which provides training world-wide for therapists in CranioSacral Therapy and other treatment modalities.
